I’ve been super busy taking classes again this fall. This semester I’ve been taking Physiology which has been challenging but amazingly insightful; aerobic cellular respiration, enzymes and substrates and really how we keep our body functioning at homeostasis.
On a personal level I’ve also been thinking about adding anti-aging products into my daily routine. I think is a great element to start once you hit your 30s! So I’m going to start off with my adventures in retinoids. I’ve always been slightly scared of retinoids, they’ve always been rumored to be so strong and harsh and drying, but sometimes you just have to jump in and give it a try. I’d rather start preventative measures now then deal with bigger skin issues later on.
Anyways here’s what I’ve found so far. I’m started using La Roche Posay REDERMIC R RETINOL CREAM. I’ve decided to start with La Roche Posay because it’s a trusted brand that I’ve been using for years. Based out of France it has a nice long history of top notch quality products. La roche Posay REDERMIC R RETINOL CREAM .
The theory on retinoids is that they need at least two months to kick in. I’ve been using this product for that long and I defiantly feel there’s been a nice change in the texture of my skin. A quick Wiki search will tell you that Retinoids are a class of chemical compounds that are vitamers of vitamin A or are chemically related to it. Retinoids have found use in medicine where they regulate epithelial (skin) cell growth.
Retinoids have many important functions throughout the body including roles in vision,[1] regulation of cell proliferation and differentiation, growth of bone tissue, immune function, and activation of tumor suppressor genes. Research is also being done into their ability to treat skin cancers. Currently, alitretinoin (9-cis-retinoic acid) may be used topically to help treat skin lesions from Kaposi's sarcoma.
Basically that promote the healthy functioning of epithelial (skin) growth and are said to increase collagen. Really retinoids are some of the most scientifally proven skin treatments out there. So here’s a pic of my two month mark and will up date you as I keep an eye on the results. On a side note: they can really dry your skin so make sure to moisturize with your favorite cream or oil and really ease them into your routine, meaning start with 1-2 times a week before bed then increase as your skin feels comfortable with it. Always moisturize and please wear sunscreen as retinoids will make your skin super sensitive to the sun! :)
